Lenny Ruckus & Ana Vida
A fresh duo emerging on the saturated electronic scene has little chance of getting heard without some stellar productions and high profile affiliations. Of course, a long standing love of dance music and an ear for music that is unparalleled in the industry is a huge plus.
No strangers to the game, both Lenny (Lenny Linus Douglas, L7K, Freaky Fusion) and Ana Vida (Ana Salazar) have been in the mix for over ten years. Early productions saw Lenny cutting his teeth with remixes of local dance artists and pop groups in the early nineties. This led to his own productions, and a refocus on a more underground sound. Support came quickly from the likes of Carl Cox, Matt Darey, Dave Dresden, Mike Shiver, Victor Dinaire, DJ Flash, DJ Lucca, Darude and The Flash Brothers, support which caught the ear of SF rave maven Ana Salazar.
Ana was a fixture in the burgeoning SF rave scene in the nineties. Clubbing and record collecting were an essential part of her life- so much so that she often found herself introducing music from abroad to her A list DJ friends. It was soon widely known that Ana had an ear for music that was more than a love of dance music. Subtle nuances and the ability to accurately predict the success a tune would have on the dancefloor made Ana a valuable asset to many top DJs. Ana was not content to be the muse of others, she knew that producing and DJing was where she wanted to be, and she began building the bridge that would eventually lead her to Lenny.
With Lenny’s production skills and Ana’s keen musical sensibilities, the two began formulating their musical identity. After a year of solid production work, they found a steady flow to their writing and their sound emerged. Friend and fan Dave Dresden was so impressed with their writing that he has given the duo all of his new original tracks (as Dresden and Johnston) for the duo to remix.
To date, Lenny and Ana have remixed Dresden and Johnston (Keep Faith, Ciao Bella and That Day feat Nadia Ali), Matt Darey and Lance Blaise.
Their first track, Rocky Road was previewed to A listers like: The Crystal Method, Carl Cox, Sander van Doorn, Dubfire, Armin van Buuren and Dave Dresden, all of whom gave the track 5/5.
Of course, all this leads to the two behind the decks- and lets just say that both have unique signature styles that flow seamlessly together when they’re on the wheels of steel. Lenny crafts music with technology, making new tracks on the fly with his keen effect integration and wicked cuts. Ana has the fluidity down with her complex music choices and thoughtful interplay between tracks. There are no accidental mixes when this team is spinning. Bring your dancing shoes, because with Lenny and Ana there is no chance you’ll be sitting down.
On the horizon, Lenny and Ana are writing original music for films and television as well as edgy, dirty techno bombs for the dancefloor. They are also following up their ‘Breakthrough Track of 2009” (as awarded by Vegas House Mafia Radio) entitled
“The High Road”, which will be released in March on the EP “Rocky Road.”
It’s always about what the music will do to and for people, and Lenny and Ana write music with no other purpose than to get people off their ass and on the floor!
