Noel Sanger
Since the early days of the US rave scene, to the more sophisticated clubbing of the new millennium and today’s ever-evolving dance scene, Noel Sanger has stood among his peers as one of North America’s finest electronic exports. His massive discography spans a decade and a half and has surpassed 200 released productions appearing on 30 plus record labels in more than a dozen countries, with consistent support from a diverse array of practically any A-list DJ you can name. Having escaped household and brand-name status, but selling nigh on a cumulative million records around the world, Noel might be the best kept secret in dance music. The secret can’t be kept much longer though, and his substantial contributions to global dance culture have been acknowledged repeatedly by the industry’s elite.
One such acknowledgment came at the start of 2006, when no less than electronic music’s foremost virtuoso, BT, personally hired Noel as a programmer on his collaborations with Dutch Superstar, Tiesto, now released on Tiesto’s Grammy-nominated “Element’s of Life” CD. Noel spent a month in Los Angeles, working side by-side with the two producers in BT’s studio, contributing significantly to the outcome of the project.
His five nationally (US) released DJ mixes have all met with enthusiastic critical acclaim; the most recent of those, Summerbreeze 2, was widely regarded as one of the best mix comps of the year. He has remixed tracks from artists such as Lustral, Flash Brothers, Delerium, DJ Hyper, BT, PQM, Jan Johnston, and dozens of others, and over the years his works have appeared on top dance labels like Armada, Baroque, Curvve, System, Electrofly, Perfecto, Solaris, Release, Institution, Nettwerk, Acetate Ltd., Musicnow, Limbo, Additive and Sunkissed as well as majors like Sony UK, Universal US, BMG US, EMI US and more. His original releases have always met with similar critical acclaim, leaving many an empty space on record shop walls around the world.
From Santo Domingo to Vancouver, Guadalajara to Ottawa, he has crisscrossed the continent time and again, bringing his unique style of forward-thinking dance music to some of the world’s best clubs, and to the world’s best crowds. From 2001 to 2003 he toured with DJ Tiesto several times, finally accompanying the superstar DJ on the Sony Playstation 2 Dual Play Tour through 14 American cities. The world seemed to take note- Noel’s first global touring began the Summer of 2003 in Japan, and spread to South America that Fall. Since then he has been booked for shows from Shanghai to Sofia to Seattle to South Beach and all the way back again.
After halcyon years playing in punk and metal bands and discovering the movement of electronic music very early on, Noel began DJing and performing live throughout the United States in the mid 1990’s. He shelved the live PA in 1999 in order to focus more attention on his DJ’ing, which, in turn, led to a series of three mix compilations in less than one year, which, taken together, sold over 100,000 copies. It was during this time that he was approached by Nettwerk Management (Home to Sara McLachlan, Coldplay, Avril Lavigne, Sum 41, etc.) to be only the second DJ signed to their DJ management roster, after the mighty Tiesto. He left Nettwerk in 2004.
Since then, it’s been strength to strength for Noel. His music is getting more attention than ever, with recent releases seeing play from the likes of Judge Jules (BBC Radio One and International Show), Paul Van Dyk (Vonyc Sessions), Armin Van Buuren (A State Of Trance), Markus Schulz (Global DJ Broadcast), Matt Darey, Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto, Roger Sanchez, Andy Moor, and a unspeakably long list of DJ’s at clubs and festivals around the globe. His touring, production and remix commitments persist in intensity, and in late 2007 he launched his long awaited Dissident Music imprint with productions released and on the way from artists such as Kenneth Thomas, Marcus Schossow, Shawn Mitiska, Matt Cerf, Brisker and Magitman, Manuel De La Mare, and of course, Noel himself. Having already touched down in Las Vegas and Miami, Dissident Music events are planned in 2008 and 2009 for cities throughout North America and the world.
Noel came full-circle In 2006, joining forces with long-time ally and friend, Mark Walker, who first released his music on (and employed him at) E-sa records in Miami some 13 years ago. Noel is now the first managed artist on Mark’s new Strange World Entertainment roster. Of the change he says, “I feel honored to have been with a company like Nettwerk, but the time came to move forward. I’m now extremely blessed to have someone like Mark in my corner, who has been there with me since the start, believes fully in my music and my vision, and has an industry CV that’s second to none.”
With all the buzz and novelty of a groundbreaking new artist, yet with the pedigree of one whose first release came over fifteen years ago, Noel has a unique and unstoppable momentum. He has only just begun to deliver on the promise of his career’s first decade. One can only imagine what he will do with his second.
